What to expect

On the Slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro

Makoa-Farm, our base, is located in Northern Tanzania, south of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa.

The farm is near Kilimanjaro’s Machame Gate with access to the spectacular rainforest on the mountain’s lower slopes. The area is home to the Chagga, people whose small villages and coffee farms dot the hillsides. On the plains to the south, Masai graze their cattle. The area is rich in diversity.

After a safari you can enjoy the refreshing change from being enclosed in a safari vehicle, explore the farm and its environment from horseback, on foot or with the feet up watch the many changing faces of the mountain.

Makoa – more than just a farm…

This is the perfect experience for animal lovers. Makoa-Farm is all about animals; so farm animals, pets and wildlife roam the farm. There is also a veterinary clinic and a wildlife rescue station where wild injured or orphaned animals are being rescued, medically treated, and nursed back to health or adulthood.

‘Saving the life of one animal may not change the world,

but the world will surely change for that one animal’

Our aim is to motivate maturing youth and adults to have a positive relationship with nature, so they will bring their knowledge home to their families and friends. Out ‘hands-on’ projects include “Makoa Kids Forest Club”, “Bush School” and training police animal units.
